This was the first time I visited the Photokina and it wont be the last time. As my interest for M43 technology raised in the last months I focused on this topic. On my need to visit list there was:
So my plan was already gone but that was OK for us. The first contact I had with M43 was Yi Technology. Yi Technology - M1 camera This camera was announced shortly before the Photokina and has very interesting technical features. Unique is the different human interface, it is based on touch technology like on a smart phone, well not 100% unique the Hasselblad X1D offers a interface that is comparable. Back to the camera. When I lifted it up I was supersized how light it is. So Yi Technologie did not use so much metal like other companies. I still don't know if I like it or not. I needed 5 minutes to get in touch with the interface but than it worked. I took some shoots with the 42,5mm lens and was disappointed with the macro mode. Yes you get closer to your subject but it is no macro and the maximum aperture was limited to F3,5(?) . The prime lens offers no manual focusing but the performance was OK. The 12-40mm F3,5-5,6 zoom offers manual focusing and a flexible focal range. I also tested the 42,5mm against my 45mm Olympus lens. First of all the camera worked with no issues with the Olympus lens. Performance was quite equal. Laowa 7.5mm F2.0 ultra wide This lens surprised me, is super small! I think when I compare it to the Samyang 7.5mm fisheye than it is about the same size. But this lens is F2.0 and has nearly no distortion. The preproduction model at there booth had some issues with missing or incorrect labelling but the performance was promising. The samples were taken with the OM-D E-M10 MK2. on the first you can see the horizontal line of the lights and the vertical line of there booth are not distorted. Well done Laowa! The lady in sample no 2 looks a little distorted but give this lens a real live test in its natural environment (Landscape photography) and then judge again. Meike - Lenses, flashes and accessory Meike released two new lenses just before the Photokina, a 8mm fisheye and a 12mm wide angle. So I was exited visiting there booth. And I get surprised that there was another new lens for M43, the 6,5mm fish-eye! A 6,5mm fish eye is the widest fisheye you could get for MFT! I was a little in a kind of wonderland there. I took pictures with there 25mm F0,95 lens and fall in love. Also the other lenses are nice. As I am looking for an external TTL flash for my M43 system I noticed the MK320 a really good value for money. Unfortunately my camera get cleaned at the Olympus booth right before we reached the Meike booth and I took photos without a SD card! I am sure there will be some real world test of some of there products soon. Others Time was running so fast, that we didn't mange to have closer looks on the products of Olympus and Panasonic. We just went throu and had a look here and there. We also meat some cool photographers and YouTuber like Benjamin Jaworskyj. Jens Burger, Peter Hawk, Felix Rachor or Marcus Boos. Time was running so fast and there was so much to see. Next time we stay over night.
